Summary of the activities of the “Physioprophylaxis” team in 2024

The year 2024 was an exceptionally intense and successful one for the „Physioprophylaxisteam. Implementation of scientific research results, tangible results, and engagement with the public resulted in numerous achievements that contributed to the popularization of physioprophylaxis and increased health awareness. All of the achievements and initiatives described below are the result of close collaboration within the team, which, thanks to commitment and mutual support, consistently pursues its scientific, educational, and outreach goals.

Team members: Lucyna Ptaszkowska, PhD, RN, Antonina Kaczorowska, PhD, Grzegorz Jędrzejewski, PhD, and Martyna Kasper-Jędrzejewska, PhD, co-organized the 1st International Conference: Modern Research Trends in Biomedical Sciences – A Holistic Approach to Healthcare. The event, held at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Opole, in 2024, attracted participants from many countries and became a platform for exchanging knowledge on modern trends in biomedical research. The conference emphasized an interdisciplinary approach to healthcare and enabled the establishment of new international scientific collaborations.

During the prestigious 54th International Continence Society Conference in Madrid, Dr. Lucyna Ptaszkowska, PhD in Health Sciences, presented the results of her study entitled “The Application of Artificial Intelligence in Urogynecology: Opportunities and Obstacles.” She analyzed the use of artificial intelligence in urogynecology, highlighting both its potential benefits and the challenges of implementation. The presentation provided an opportunity for discussion with international experts and the establishment of new collaborations. Participation in workshops and scientific sessions inspired further development in the field of pelvic floor disorder therapy and artificial intelligence.
Dr. Lucyna Ptaszkowska is currently continuing an international research project that began in 2024.

Dr. Antonina Kaczorowska, PhD in Physical Culture Sciences, co-organized an international training for students affiliated with the Forthem alliance (together with Dr. Agata Mroczek, Dr. Katarzyna Szwamel, Dr. Magdalena Golachowska, and MSc Iwona Dobrowolska), titled “Interdisciplinary Approach to Treat Chronic Respiratory Diseases.” The training brought together 20 students from Germany, France, Finland, Latvia, Italy, and Spain. Participants learned about the clinical symptoms of selected chronic respiratory diseases, underwent spirometry testing, toured the Medical Simulation Center, learned about the role of diet in respiratory diseases, and took part in exercise training designed for individuals with chronic lung conditions.

Dr. Antonina Kaczorowska is also the author of the lecture “Pain Assessment in Physiotherapy Practice,” delivered during the conference “Pain in Physiotherapy Practice” in Stryków. Her presentation was highly acclaimed by participants, emphasizing the importance of precise physiotherapeutic diagnostics in pain management.

Dr. Martyna Kasper-Jędrzejewska, PhD in Health Sciences, presented at national and international conferences — from the “Health Sciences Matters” session during the April conference of the Faculty of Health Sciences to the European Fascia Research Exchange Meeting. Her contributions highlighted key issues in the functional diagnostics of pelvic floor muscles and accessibility of knowledge on conservative treatments.

During the Congress of the National Chamber of Physiotherapists, Dr. Kasper-Jędrzejewska emphasized the importance of objectivizing research in urogynecological rehabilitation, and at the Congress of the Polish Physiotherapy Association she discussed the role of physiotherapy in anorectal dysfunctions. Her workshops and lectures, including at the Women’s Health Physiotherapy Conference in Brno, contributed to the promotion of innovative diagnostic methods such as surface electromyography of pelvic floor muscles.

At the local level, Dr. Martyna Kasper-Jędrzejewska promoted pelvic floor health during events such as the Second Women’s Week in Opole, where she organized open workshops and lectures for residents, as well as during Scientific Evenings hosted by the Fizjonerzy Student Research Club, where she discussed practical aspects of pelvic floor dysfunction prevention and treatment in an accessible way.

Additionally, Dr. Grzegorz Jędrzejewski, PhD in Physical Culture Sciences, as a board member of the Ida P. Rolf Research Foundation, undertook an inspiring trip to the United States. During intensive meetings with the foundation’s team, he co-developed a new strategy for supporting scientific research in the field of Structural Integration therapy. Priorities for funding innovative projects and plans for international collaboration were established, opening new perspectives for interdisciplinary research on biomechanics and manual therapies.

An important development for the team’s work was the addition, in 2024, of a PhD student, Mr. Szymon Kawka, whose supervisor is Prof. Alejandro Galán-Mercant (University of Cádiz), with Dr. Martyna Kasper-Jędrzejewska serving as co-supervisor. His research focuses on advanced diagnostic and therapeutic methods for lower back pain. The collaboration with Mr. Kawka and Prof. Galán-Mercant is expected to bring new dynamics and a fresh perspective to the team’s activities.

Ongoing projects, new ideas, and the intensification of activities make 2025 look set to be an even busier year than 2024. However, the team is fully prepared to face these new challenges.
