On May 21, 2020, in the\u00a0<\/span>Senate<\/span>\u00a0Hall of the University of Opole,\u00a0<\/span>an<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>agreement<\/span>\u00a0was\u00a0<\/span>signed<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>between<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>Rector<\/span>\u00a0of the University of Opole, Prof. Marek\u00a0<\/span>Masnyk<\/span>, and the\u00a0<\/span>Rector<\/span>\u00a0of the\u00a0<\/span>State<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Medical<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Higher<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Vocational<\/span>\u00a0School in Opole,\u00a0<\/span>Assoc<\/span>. Prof. Tomasz Halski,\u00a0<\/span>documenting<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>incorporation<\/span>\u00a0of the\u00a0<\/span>State<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Medical<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Higher<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Vocational<\/span>\u00a0School\u00a0<\/span>into<\/span>\u00a0the University of Opole. The\u00a0<\/span>ceremony<\/span>\u00a0was\u00a0<\/span>attended<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>among<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>others<\/span>, by Wojciech\u00a0<\/span>Murdzek<\/span>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/span>then<\/span>\u00a0Minister of Science and\u00a0<\/span>Higher<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Education<\/span>, and Jaros\u0142aw Gowin \u2013\u00a0<\/span>former<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Deputy<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Prime<\/span>\u00a0Minister and Minister of Science and\u00a0<\/span>Higher<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Education<\/span>, a\u00a0<\/span>strong<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>advocate<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>merging<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>both<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>institutions<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0<\/span>optimize<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>education<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>students<\/span>\u00a0in\u00a0<\/span>medical<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>fields<\/span>\u00a0and to\u00a0<\/span>conduct<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>innovative<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>scientific<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>research<\/span>\u00a0in the field of\u00a0<\/span>medical<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>sciences<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>health<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>sciences<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Nearly\u00a0five\u00a0years\u00a0of\u00a0negotiations\u00a0were\u00a0formally\u00a0sanctioned\u00a0by the\u00a0Regulation\u00a0of the Minister of Science and\u00a0Higher\u00a0Education\u00a0of May 21, 2020,\u00a0regarding\u00a0the\u00a0incorporation,\u00a0effective\u00a0July\u00a015, 2020, of the\u00a0State\u00a0Medical\u00a0Higher\u00a0Vocational\u00a0School in Opole\u00a0into\u00a0the University of Opole.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0State\u00a0Medical\u00a0Higher\u00a0Vocational\u00a0School in Opole,\u00a0while\u00a0retaining\u00a0its\u00a0location,\u00a0buildings,\u00a0scientific\u00a0and\u00a0teaching\u00a0facilities,\u00a0staff, and\u00a0students\u00a0of five\u00a0study\u00a0programs\u00a0\u2013\u00a0nursing,\u00a0midwifery,\u00a0physiotherapy,\u00a0cosmetology, and\u00a0dietetics\u00a0\u2013\u00a0began\u00a0operating, in\u00a0accordance\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0new\u00a0statute\u00a0of the University of Opole and\u00a0organizational\u00a0regulations, as\u00a0<\/span>Collegium\u00a0Salutis\u00a0Humanae<\/span><\/i>,\u00a0that\u00a0is, the\u00a0Institute\u00a0and\u00a0Faculty\u00a0of\u00a0Health\u00a0Sciences.<\/span><\/p>\n

State Medical Higher Vocational School in Opole <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The\u00a0State\u00a0Medical\u00a0Higher\u00a0Vocational\u00a0School in Opole<\/span><\/b>, the\u00a0only\u00a0state\u00a0higher\u00a0vocational\u00a0school\u00a0in Poland with a\u00a0medical\u00a0profile, was\u00a0established\u00a0on May 15, 2003. The\u00a0first\u00a0Rector\u00a0(until\u00a02012) was Prof. Andrzej\u00a0Steciwko. At the\u00a0beginning\u00a0of the 21st\u00a0century, the\u00a0authorities\u00a0of the\u00a0dynamically\u00a0developing Opole region\u00a0focused\u00a0on\u00a0strengthening\u00a0the\u00a0region\u2019s\u00a0scientific\u00a0and\u00a0educational\u00a0potential.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the\u00a0landscape\u00a0of\u00a0higher\u00a0education\u00a0institutions,\u00a0there\u00a0was a\u00a0lack\u00a0of a\u00a0medical\u00a0university\u00a0\u2013 one\u00a0that\u00a0would\u00a0initially\u00a0educate\u00a0mid-level\u00a0medical\u00a0personnel\u00a0and, with the development of\u00a0academic\u00a0and\u00a0scientific\u00a0staff,\u00a0could\u00a0also\u00a0train\u00a0higher-level\u00a0medical\u00a0professionals.\u00a0Over\u00a017\u00a0years\u00a0of\u00a0activity, PMWSZ\u00a0indeed\u00a0fulfilled\u00a0this\u00a0role.\u00a0Starting\u00a0with\u00a0two\u00a0bachelor\u2019s\u00a0programs, by 2020 the\u00a0school\u00a0offered\u00a0five\u00a0fields\u00a0of\u00a0study,\u00a0both\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0bachelor\u2019s\u00a0and\u00a0master\u2019s\u00a0level.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the\u00a0early\u00a0years\u00a0of\u00a0PMWSZ\u2019s\u00a0activity,\u00a0during\u00a0the\u00a0organization\u00a0of\u00a0teaching\u00a0facilities,\u00a0academic\u00a0staff, and the\u00a0administrative\u00a0infrastructure\u00a0of the\u00a0new\u00a0institution, less\u00a0emphasis\u00a0was\u00a0placed\u00a0on\u00a0conducting\u00a0local\u00a0scientific\u00a0research. In 2013,\u00a0research\u00a0activity\u00a0was\u00a0formally\u00a0incorporated\u00a0into\u00a0the\u00a0university\u2019s\u00a0development\u00a0strategy\u00a0by a resolution of the\u00a0Senate. A\u00a0true\u00a0scientific\u00a0evolution\u00a0followed, and in 2017 PMWSZ was\u00a0ready, for the\u00a0first\u00a0time\u00a0and on a\u00a0voluntary\u00a0basis, to\u00a0participate\u00a0in the\u00a0ministerial\u00a0evaluation\u00a0of\u00a0scientific\u00a0activity,\u00a0submitting\u00a0for\u00a0review\u00a0the\u00a0research\u00a0achievements\u00a0from 2013\u20132016. The\u00a0expert\u00a0evaluation\u00a0confirmed\u00a0the high\u00a0quality\u00a0of the\u00a0four\u00a0years\u00a0of\u00a0work\u00a0\u2013\u00a0category\u00a0A was\u00a0awarded\u00a0in the\u00a0discipline\u00a0of\u00a0medical\u00a0sciences\u00a0to the\u00a0Faculty\u00a0of\u00a0Physiotherapy.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In order to\u00a0strengthen\u00a0the\u00a0professionalization\u00a0of\u00a0research\u00a0activity, in 2017 the\u00a0university\u00a0established\u00a0a\u00a0Research\u00a0Section\u00a0to\u00a0support\u00a0scientific\u00a0evaluation\u00a0in\u00a0various\u00a0disciplines. In 2018, as part of\u00a0ongoing\u00a0discussions\u00a0with the University of Opole on\u00a0merging\u00a0both\u00a0institutions,\u00a0health\u00a0sciences\u00a0were\u00a0designated\u00a0as the\u00a0evaluation\u00a0discipline.\u00a0Research\u00a0equipment\u00a0and\u00a0instruments\u00a0for\u00a0physiotherapists\u00a0were\u00a0purchased, and a\u00a0biomedical\u00a0laboratory\u00a0was\u00a0equipped.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2019, a\u00a0<\/span>Research<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Institute<\/span>\u00a0was\u00a0<\/span>established<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>under<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>leadership<\/span>\u00a0of Prof. Henryk Koz\u0142owski,\u00a0<\/span>an<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>outstanding<\/span>\u00a0scholar of\u00a0<\/span>international<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>renown<\/span>\u00a0and the\u00a0<\/span>founder<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>bioinorganic<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>chemistry<\/span>\u00a0in Poland,\u00a0<\/span>who<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>together<\/span>\u00a0with\u00a0<\/span>his<\/span>\u00a0team,\u00a0<\/span>initiated<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>pioneering<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>basic<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>research<\/span>\u00a0in\u00a0<\/span>medical<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>chemistry<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>at<\/span>\u00a0PMWSZ. The team\u00a0<\/span>obtained<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>two<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>significant<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>National<\/span>\u00a0Science Centre (NCN)\u00a0<\/span>research<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>grants<\/span>: in 2018,\u00a0<\/span>funded<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>under<\/span>\u00a0the SONATA 14\u00a0<\/span>competition<\/span>:\u00a0<\/span><\/span>The\u00a0<\/span>interaction<\/span>\u00a0of iron\u00a0<\/span>ions<\/span>\u00a0with\u00a0<\/span>heat<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>shock<\/span>\u00a0protein B1<\/span><\/span>\u00a0(<\/span>project<\/span>\u00a0leader: Dr. Agnieszka\u00a0<\/span>Szebesczyk<\/span>), and in 2020,\u00a0<\/span>funded<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>under<\/span>\u00a0the OPUS 19\u00a0<\/span>competition<\/span>:\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Thermodynamics<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>interactions<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>between<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>betacoronaviruses<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>human<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>cell<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>receptors<\/span><\/span>\u00a0(<\/span>project<\/span>\u00a0leader:\u00a0<\/span>Assoc<\/span>. Prof. Danuta Witkowska).<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>Institute<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>Health<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Sciences<\/span>\u00a0of the University of Opole,\u00a0<\/span>again<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>under<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>leadership<\/span>\u00a0of Prof. Henryk Koz\u0142owski, on\u00a0<\/span>July<\/span>\u00a015, 2020,\u00a0<\/span>smoothly<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>took<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>over<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>research<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>technical<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>facilities<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>academic<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>staff<\/span>, and\u00a0<\/span>advanced<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>scientific<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>projects<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>conducted<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>within<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>PMWSZ\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Research<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Institute<\/span>\u00a0in the\u00a0<\/span>discipline<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>health<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>sciences<\/span>. It\u00a0<\/span>also<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>defined<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>new<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>research<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>priorities<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>related<\/span>\u00a0to the\u00a0<\/span>obligatory<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>criteria<\/span>\u00a0for\u00a0<\/span>scientific<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>activity<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>evaluation<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>aligned<\/span>\u00a0with the\u00a0<\/span>mission<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>vision<\/span>, and\u00a0<\/span>research<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>standards<\/span>\u00a0of the University of Opole as\u00a0<\/span>an<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>academic<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>institution<\/span>. On\u00a0<\/span>December<\/span>\u00a031, 2021, the\u00a0<\/span>process<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>submitting<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>scientific<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>achievements<\/span>\u00a0for\u00a0<\/span>evaluation<\/span>\u00a0by the Science Evaluation\u00a0<\/span>Committee<\/span>\u00a0and the\u00a0<\/span>Ministry<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>Education<\/span>\u00a0and Science was\u00a0<\/span>completed<\/span>. The\u00a0<\/span>Institute<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>presented<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>experts<\/span>\u00a0with\u00a0<\/span>research<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>outputs<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>developed<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>both<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>at<\/span>\u00a0PMWSZ in Opole and\u00a0<\/span>at<\/span>\u00a0the University of Opole.\u00a0<\/span>These<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>included<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>publications<\/span>\u00a0in the most\u00a0<\/span>prestigious<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>journals<\/span>\u00a0in\u00a0<\/span>health<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>sciences<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>financial<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>results<\/span>\u00a0from\u00a0<\/span>research<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>projects<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>commercialization<\/span>\u00a0in\u00a0<\/span>medical<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>chemistry<\/span>, and\u00a0<\/span>case<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>studies<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>clearly<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>demonstrating<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>impact<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>flagship<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>research<\/span>\u00a0in\u00a0<\/span>physioprophylaxis<\/span>\u00a0on the\u00a0<\/span>social<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>economic<\/span>\u00a0environment.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"In 2022,\u00a0<\/span>experts<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>awarded<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>category<\/span>\u00a0A to the\u00a0<\/span>discipline<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>health<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>sciences<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>at<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0the University of Opole.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>Consequently<\/span>, the University\u00a0<\/span>obtained<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>rights<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0<\/span>confer<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>doctoral<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>habilitation<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>degrees<\/span>\u00a0in\u00a0<\/span>health<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>sciences<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>enabling<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>Institute<\/span>\u00a0\u2013 for the\u00a0<\/span>first<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>time<\/span>\u00a0\u2013 to\u00a0<\/span>involve<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>its<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>staff<\/span>\u00a0in the\u00a0<\/span>process<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>awarding<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>academic<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>degrees<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>within<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>its<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>home<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>university<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
